Course Goals and Objectives:
1. Students will demonstrate the ability to read for multiple levels of understanding, read critically and for a specific focus, and annotate a text independently.
2. Students will demonstrate the ability to summarize, reflect, inform, persuade, and synthesize ideas through writing.
3. Students will demonstrate the ability to cite sources, create a standard works cited page, and integrate other’s ideas in work while giving credit.
4. Students will demonstrate the ability to apply the steps of the writing process including prewriting, drafting, revising, editing, and publishing.
5. Students will read multiple types of texts revolving around a central theme and understand how style, purpose, and structure differ in these writings.
6. Students will use academic vocabulary and academic structures in writing, speaking, listening, and presentation.
7. Students will develop essential academic skills including self-monitoring, persistence, time management, and self-advocacy.
8. Students will develop the ability to transfer skills to new readings, assignments, content, and writings.
Englewood schools has contracted with Illuminate to provide standards based formative assessments throughout the year. Expectations from the district include the use of high yield strategies and student collaboration.

Englewood Schools reserves to right to collect funds on a student account if a grade of D or F is earned for this course. In order to receive credit for this course, a student must qualify based on Accuplacer scores, complete the enrollment paperwork, and earn a passing grade of a C or higher.
Course Description:
Students in CCR 092 will purposefully engage with complex reading and writing assignments. Through this engagement, students will understand concepts and begin to evaluate and critique ideas and arguments. A cross content focus will be present and non-fiction reading will be a strong focus.
Grading Percentages:
Students will be graded on in and out-of-class assignments including: readings, writings, quizzes, tests, online discussions, projects, and class participation.

- Journals/Warm Ups/Quickwrites: 5%
- Low Stakes/Do Now: 15%
- Flipped Assignments/Homework: 15%
- High Stakes Assignments(papers/annotated bibliography): 50%
- Final Exam: 10%
Grading Scale:
Please note the difference in the CCR grading scale; this grading scale is ACC required and will apply to semester enrolled for dual enrollment credit. A grade of a C or higher is considered proficient and is required for credit. It is important the not the changed grading scale for this class; an 8 point scale exists. Because Infinite Campus defaults to a 10 point scale, an “adjustment” grading category will exist to assist in showing an accurate percentage for your viewing and transcript records.
